Catarina de Albuquerque

Senior legal adviser at the Office for Documentation and Comparative Law (an independent institution under the Portuguese Prosecutor General’s Office), working in the area of human rights. United Nations Independent Expert on the Issue of Human Rights Obligations related to access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and invited Professor at the Porto Catholic University, at the Coimbra University and at the University of Minho (Portugal).
Former Chairperson Rapporteur of the UN Working Group on an Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Over the past 12 years Catarina has also worked as a consultant for UNICEF, the European Commission, UNDP and the OHCHR.
Law Degree by the Law Faculty of the Lisbon University and Masters Degree by the Graduate Institute of International Studies (Geneva).
Participant in 1995 (299), Jean-Pictet Award. Involved in the organization of the Competition since 1996.
Member of the CCJP since 1998.
